Analyzing the Aerosol Absorption Index (AAI) trend in Indian region during Post-Monsoon Season
Abstract
Present study deals with an approach to investigate the change in Absorbing Aerosol Index (AAI) within the Indian region using GOME-2 satellite data and the impact of wind speed on AAI using geospatial technique. AAI is the elevated absorbing aerosols in the troposphere which is investigated in the present study for last 5 years from September-December months. Many researches had notified that the absorbing aerosols particles are increasing in the northern part of the country especially in the last months of every year due to the anthropogenic factors like biomass burning of crop residues, crackers burning etc. and the slow wind speed in that season elevates the impact even more. Presently, we observed the per day wind data from 2013-2017 to see the impact of wind speed on AAI and it is observed that the wind speed is lowest in the last four months of each year compared to the other months and that causing the aerosols particle to move slowly and affecting the atmosphere most. The trend of the AAI is analyzed and it is estimated that the intensity of AAI is increasing gradually every year, from 0.52 in November 2013 it increased up to 1.66 in November 2017. Monthly AAI is observed and it is seen that the value of AAI is the highest in November month of every year with a continuous increasing trend.
