A Time Domain Reflectometery (TDR) based estimation of soil moisture
Abstract
Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR, model Field ScoutTM TDR 300) has been used in soil science community for in-situ measurements of soil water content (SWC) due to its simplicity, fast and accurate results. TDR instrument has the capacity to measure SWC at ground without any laboratory testing and efforts. In this study, TDR have used two parallel probes of 7.5 cm length to calculate soil volumetric water content (VWC). Finally, soil moisture results were compared with laboratory based soil moisture using nine statistical tests and weightage rating analysis. Based on the analysis we found that VWC based on linear model has significant soil moisture predicting ability at field level. Based on research work we recommend dense TDR network over large fields for accurate estimation of SWC.
